The Medicine Buddha is one of the most popular buddhas in the world. In Tibet, the Medicine Buddha is revered as the source of the healing arts, and it is through him that the teachings that form the basis of Tibetan healing came into being. The practice of Medicine Buddha Sadhana is not only a very powerful method for healing and increasing healing powers both for oneself and others, but also for overcoming the inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance. Meditating on Medicine Buddha can help decrease physical and mental illness and suffering. Tibetan Buddhists consider the Medicine Buddha Empowerment to be the most powerful blessing for healing, dispelling sickness and for awakening the innate healing wisdom that lies within every individual. If ignorance and hatred remain festering within us, sooner or later they give rise to disease and suffering. The Medicine Buddha is revered as a great physician not because of his healing power-great though it may be- but because of his great compassion, wisdom and skill in diagnosing, and treating the root cause of all mental and physical afflictions. In many images of the Medicine Buddha, he is seen holding a beautiful jar. According to tradition, this jar holds an emerald. The Medicine Buddha meditates and prays for the souls of others constantly while holding this stone. It is said that emeralds are thus sacred to The Medicine Buddha. The Medicine Buddha Empowerment Stone allows the user to amplify the energy of their healing meditations and prayers. This stone has been blessed with the power of the Medicine Buddha Sadhana. In order to access its power, one need only hold it while visualizing white light filled with love and compassion. The Medicine Buddha Empowerment Stone Visualization and Meditation
Hold The Medicine Buddha Empowerment Stone in your left hand. Visualize a lotus flower is four inches above the crown of the head. In the center of the lotus visualize The Medicine Buddha as seated above. Visualize your Empowerment Stone floating inside the lapis-lazuli jar held by The Medicine Buddha. Visualize white and golden rays of healing energy emanating from your stone as it resides within the jar of The Medicine Buddha.
Repeat The Medicine Buddha Mantra Three Times: OM NAMO BHAGAWATE BEKHANDZYE GURU BEDURYA PRABHA RADZAYA TATHAGATYA ARHATE SAMYAKSAM BUDDHAYA TADYATHA OM BEKANDZE BEKHANDZYE MAHA BEKHANDZYE RADZA SAMUDGATE SVAHA Then repeat the following words three times: I go for refuge until I am enlightened, to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha- the spiritual community. By the virtuous merits I amass by practicing compassion and other perfections, may I quickly attain buddhahood so that I may lead all sentient beings into enlightenment.
Then hold The Four Immeasurable Thoughts in your mind: Reflect upon the meaning of each of these thoughts three times. They need not be repeated out loud.
Then visualize that your body and The Medicine Buddha Stone of Empowerment are filled with light. Imagine that your body becomes clear as crystal. The beams of light then radiate out in all directions to heal the sicknesses and afflictions of all other sentient beings.
This meditation activates your Buddha nature. It may be completed with your eyes open or closed.

Hi Mitchell, Still drinking my water and still clearing. Interesting week. Last Saturday I was taking an end table out of the back of my car and blew my sacrum and coccyx out. It was painful as all get out, but my first thought was this was too weird. I felt like I had blown my pelvic girdle apart from a nuclear blast from my first and second chakra's. I could feel every bone joint in the pelvic girdle separate all the way to the tip of the coccyx than snap back into shape a bit out of whack. I thought it reminded me of child birth in one big motion without the benefit of a new bundle of joy. Maybe there was one on another level or maybe I just blew attachments off. Anyway it screwed up my entire central channel. Not only did my entire spine hurt (but nothing like my sacrum) I could feel the flow constrict - and the interesting thing was I then started gaining water weight all week. Several pounds of it. I hobbled into the house and laid down and my new puppy (Agate) climbed up on tummy between the 1st and 2nd chakra and laid there looking at me. Then she started to put out a bunch of heat that filled my entire pelvis. When I looked at her in surprise she was emitting this soft white glow. I found myself a gifted little healer.... So I babied my injury all week in the traditional way (ice, Alieve and rest) and became more and more energetically congested until it was getting hard to think clearly. By the way the injury got no better. So yesterday (Sat) I went to the chiropractor for her to pop my hips back into place and then came home and pulled out my Medicine Buddha stone. Laying down I held the stone over my root chakra with both hands and began to chant the Medicine Buddha Mantra. I carried this up each chakra until it cleared all the way to the crown. Amazing energy and heat began to swirl immediately, especially in the first three chakras. Over the 2nd I even looked at my skin to see if the stone left a scorch mark it got so hot. But the kundalini began to unwind and slowly traveled up my central channel until I reached Samadhi with the crown. I felt like I had fully blasted away all restriction and attachments or sediment. My hips felt immediately better and I was mentally clear again. Over the next couple hours my pain went completely away and I diuriesed about 4 lbs of fluid. My Medicine Buddha meditation stone I actually trembled when I picked up the beautiful box it is encased in. Yet somehow when held in the palm of my hand, it is rock solid, comforting and I did a meditation with it. Followed the instructions, and was able to work with it surprisingly easily. Thank you. Dear Dr. Gibson Last night the leaving soul meditation was fabulous, sorry but I cannot wait to share whit you. I saw the medicine Buddha during the meditation, his body was dark and his robe was orange like the mandala. Then when I opened my eyes I saw a bright light and the Buddha head , no color only shadow. I turn my face and I saw 1 Angel wing outside the window. The color was exactly like the picture you have in your office. Then I saw a face , look like you. Now I have to ask you a question , are you medicine Buddha? Because you look like him . When I was looking the mandala medicine Buddha open his eyes and move his head and arms, the orange color around the mandala became bright and I felt was coming inside me, like transmitting something to me, I don’t know how to explain myself , but I’m sure you understood. Dear Dr. Gibson, I am happy to report that Vicki did some long distance healing on my daughter Julianna and it worked! Julianna is actually in North Carolina today (Pinehurst) playing in a college golf tournament. She arrived on Fri. eve and was dreadfully ill with the flu. She was in bed Fri. eve. all day Sat.(missing her practice round). It didn't look good, as she couldn't even lift her head, let alone eat or drink fluids. I called Vicki, who treats my children as her own. She worked on Juli using her Buddha stone. Juli's coach called and said that Juli started to get some color in her face not long after Vicki started her work. I tried to send some of my "remedies" (colloidal silver throat spray, homeopathic remedy, and oregano and olive oil tincture). I sent it overnight but it got lost in the snow storm in Kentucky. I then meditated and a thought came to me, garlic. It turned out that her teammate had some garlic tablets and gave them to Juli. Miracuously, Sunday Juli got out of bed got dressed and played in the first round. Her clubs felt heavy, but she completed her round and felt stronger the second nine. She is playing right now and will play on Tues. the final round. I think she will feel and play better and better. As all of this was occuring I felt such great appreciation and love for Vicki. I also had a feeling that Vicki and I have worked together before. The words, "a little of this and a little of that" kept popping in my head. I think Vicki had a BIG part of "that". Another side note is that Julianna was present last summer when Vicki used her abilities to heal a bird. So Juli was a witness to Vicki's abilities. I seems like the Medicine Buddha has been showing up everywhere I look lately, just to make sure I get the message that I am supposed to do this practice, I guess :) First, of course, my Rose readings had indicated that, along with the karma stones, I needed the Medicine Buddha ( I've included the logs of my pertinent readings below, in case you are interested ). Second, after I ordered it, I looked up Medicine Buddha, and realized how resonant it is with what the Rose readings said, as well as what I naturally do already, even to quoting the 4 immeasurables, one of my very favorite prayers; and of course the fact that I work in the healing arts; and that it has never felt right to me to pray solely for my own healing and happiness - I have always said that as long as there is suffering in the world, I feel I must apply my energy on behalf of alleviating that suffering in any way I can; and so I try to include everyone in my healing work and prayers, because I will not be truly at peace until all beings are also at peace, since I feel the pain of the world. I have come to understand that this is similar to the vow of a bodhisattva. I have long had a real call to the bodhichitta awakened heart. Also the connection to the sun/moon, as I have recently taken to wearing an amber and a moonstone together all the time.....also in the Japanese version, the 12 immortal protective masters, that has been coming up in the Rose reading but I didn't understand the reference until I read about it. And the radiant shining out of compassion to all is something I already do in my daily meditation. And so the more I read about Medicine Buddha, the more I became absolutely blissed out, even just to contemplate doing this kind of practice every day with intention on behalf of all beings, caused me great joy and a sense of coming home. I simply felt that I was designed to do it. Then, the other day, I happened to be looking up massage schools in Santa Cruz for my daughter, and came across a retreat center called "Land of Medicine Buddha", which she herself had not seen, despite also looking up all the massage schools in the area. And finally, discovering that my stone arrived on the auspicious day.....I cannot express the depth of my awe and gratitude at this chain of events. Amazing! So yesterday was not only Medicine Buddha Day, but is it also the Nepalese New Year you are referring to, or something else? Oh wow, I just found another correlation: Yesterday was the beginning of a 4 day event here in Seattle with the Dalai Lama, entitled "Seeds of Compassion"! Anyway, thanks again.
